Our 1st vintage, 2007 Big John Cab was very successful and I was very excited for our second vintage, no matter how much I loved the 1st labels color (the reddish brown label denoting my favorite Hereford color) I was told by a number of marketing people, including our 1st distributor, that this label was to dark and I needed to find a label more visible on the shelf and much easier to read.
That was the beginning of my relationship with Ashbeck Design. After a couple of months of working with Deb Ashbeck, we came up with the lighter label. It had and continues to have an old western border, a lighter color but still leather look and of course our H/H Estates Reserve brand. This label has been slightly updated over the years.
Our second Big John Cab H/H Estate Reserve wine received a score of 90 from the Wine Advocate. I am including a picture showing the bottle and their review.
Our 3rd vintage was 2009. This Big John Cab sticks out in my memory as big and rich. We entered several of our 2009 reds in the Houston International Wine Competition in 2012. We had 2 Best of Class and 2 other Gold medals, one being Big John. At that time, I was told that this was the biggest wine competition in North America. This was a surprise to many in the industry and brought us a lot of recognition and attention to our area. I will share more on the other awards when we focus on other wines. The 2009 Big John also got a 92 in the Chicago ‘s BTI – Beverage Tasting Institute Wine Evaluation.
Big John's history of receiving Platinum Awards will be discussed next week.
Don’t forget that August is Washington Wine Month and for the month of August you will receive an additional 10% off your purchase of 2019 Big John Cab.
