Previously sold as Downtown Red. This wine is very interesting; It hits you with a combination of fruit, oak and leather on the nose. Additional aromas are dried red fruits with a spicy quality and a smokey note coming from the Syrah. The flavors mimic the smells of dried cherry and currant. The wine is light bodied with complex layers of fruit. Less tannin and more acid make this a refreshing red with balance and a nice finish. Pair this with a big juicy pepper jack hamburger and onion rings.
This is a new wine and the first edition of our new LOL red. A very interesting blend of different varietals and vintages. The main component of the blend is the Mourvedre from the 2011 vintage. This lot had some extended aging in barrel, it was a little lighter in color and intensity so I needed to find a way to make it stand out. After blending some of my reserve wines and figuring out a plan for the rest of the Coyote Canyon wines, I went to work on this blend. Part art and part math put me on a track to try a multitude of blend combinations. I wanted to make a wine that was easy drinking and fruit forward but also wanted to showcase the extended barrel age complexity of the Mourvedre. I think that this wine is ready to drink now.
