2015 Life is Rosé

$18.00 ~ Limited Quantities

Tasting Notes

Bursting with aromas of dried strawberries, red fruit and herbs the nose on this rose is very pleasing. The flavors are big and bold, starting off with a sweet component that gives way to a nice crisp finish. This is wine to be enjoyed over the summer on hot days, pair it with cheese plates and seafood.

Winemakers Notes

Each vintage I feel like I have been able to make this rose a little better. I have started harvesting it earlier and giving it a shorter cold soak in order to make a lighter brighter wine. The 2015 vintage was challenging because of all the heat and I was concerned the acid to fruit profile might have a hard time developing in the Barbera but it turned out to work wonderfully. The grapes were hand harvested and cold soaked for around 8 hours before being whole cluster pressed. After a cold settling I racked the wine and started its fermentation. The fermentation took about 30 days at a temperature of 56 degrees, this cool ferment helps maintain the bright fruit aromas. After fermentation the wine was racked, filtered and bottled.

2015 was a very warm vintage resulting in an early harvest and some interesting challenges we haven't faced before. A typical vintage in Washington is pretty warm but 2015 was insane, the heat units accumulated so quickly we were picking 3 weeks earlier than an average year. As with any year many challenges were faced and adversities overcome in order to grow and create a great wine. The summer was hot but we didn't have a lot of days over 100 degrees which allowed the crop to ripen at a nice pace, be it a little faster than a typical vintage. When Fall arrived the grapes were ready about a week ahead of schedule. The wines from 2015 show great promise.
