2013 Albariño

$22.00 I SALE

Tasting Notes

The 2013 Albarino has nice ripe aromas of pear and hints of star-fruit. Medium to light bodied the initial taste feels big and rich but is quickly balanced by crisp acidity. The alcohol adds a little spiciness that balances all the lush fruit. A slightly creamy finish lingers and shows nice depth and balance. A great sipping wine or pairs with fish, spicy foods or pasta dishes.

Winemakers notes

The 2013 Albarino is vibrant and floral and while it encompasses some traditional characteristics it is also bigger and more tropical than many. The grapes were all handpicked and then whole cluster pressed into a stainless steel tank. The wine was slow fermented at a cool temperature to keep more aromatics throughout its fermentation. Rich pear and lemon zest shine through. This wine is great in hot weather and pairs nicely with spicy curry dishes.

2013 was a great grape growing season in WA State. The Horse Heaven Hills AVA was above its long term average for GDD by 150 units. With warm temperatures throughout the summer it seemed like an early harvest was inevitable but a cool September helped grapes develop flavors while slowing down ripening. One of the first grapes we picked was Albarino and it was tasting delicious, a great balance of sugar and acidity had developed. This exciting, fresh, Spanish grape is a rare variety in WA and Coyote Canyon Vineyard was the first in the state to plant and produce it.
