Full bodied and deep colored with dark fruit aromas let you know this is no wimpy wine. Aromatics of plum, blackberry, milk chocolate and mild toast are some of the more identifiable aromas. Full bodied the wine starts off jammy and rich but finishes with balance and grace. Pair this wine with eggplant parmesan, the acidity will help balance any bitterness in the eggplant and enhance the flavors.
Looking at past vintages I decided to blend in some Merlot to help round out the mid palette and found that a adding a little Graciano and Sangiovese helped enhance the complexity of the wine. The oak tones help balance the juiciness of the Primitivo while the Graciano adds a little spice to the finish.

Overall 2012 was a good grape growing season in WA State. The Horse Heaven Hills AVA was right at its long term average for GDD which was nice after a couple of cooler vintages in 2010 and 2011. With consistent temperatures and a steady source of irrigation grapes were ripened on time and developed full flavors.
