2011 Grenache

Tasting notes

Garnet violet color with aromas of spicy berry chutney, chocolate, strawnerries and oranges. A supple, fruity-yet-dry medium body and a tangy, melon and spice accented finish coupled with dusty tannins.

Winemakers notes:

It is well balanced and showcases the potential of this varietal out of the Horse Heaven Hills. The slightly cooler 2011 vintage set up to ripen the Grenache quite nicely and the additional hang time led to richer flavor development. The wine is rich and full bodied for Grenache and has a long finish.

Vineyard Notes

  • Vineyard Source: Coyote Canyon Vineyard
  • AVA: Horse Heaven Hills
  • Grower Degree Days: 2662
  • Precipitation: 5.4’

2011 was the second cool vintage in a row for Washington State. With GDD well below average some varietals had problems developing full flavor while others thrived in the more moderate temperatures. Grenache is usually picked early at our sight and the cooler vintage allowed for more hang time and full flavor development.
